The case for boring resumes in 2026
Hiring still rewards clarity over creativity. A practical structure that gets you past the first screen.

Decoration ≠ signal
Recruiters across most fields spend 6–8 seconds on a first pass. Pretty colors and timelines don't help; clear structure does.
A structure that works
- Header: name, location, one line of role intent
- Experience: reverse chronological, three bullets per role, each starting with a verb and ending with a number
- Education: degree, institution, year, rank if it actually matters
- Skills: only the ones you'd be happy demonstrating in 30 seconds
Bullet pattern
Verb · what you did · with what tool · for what outcome
Example: "Rebuilt the onboarding flow that cut new-user drop-off by 22% in one quarter."
What to cut
- "References available on request" (they know)
- Photos (in most Indian roles, no upside, only legal risk)
- Anything older than 10 years that isn't load-bearing
Boring is a feature, not a bug.
